A fond farewell to sliding scale pricing.
This was a hard decision to make, but after 5 years of offering our products at sliding scale, I've decided to phase out this offering. In short, we came to the conclusion that physical products are inherently challenging to offer at sliding scale due to labor costs, material costs, storage costs and the like, whereas sliding scale is far more possible with service-based offerings like classes and consultations.
Our hope is that by setting a clear price for First Curve products, we will be able to allocate more to our Community Fund, and provide more free & low-cost education and herbal consultation services, which is where I truly believe there is more impact in providing accessibility.
What is the Community Fund?
First Curve's Community Fund is a dedicated savings account which is funded by setting aside a percentage of First Curve revenue. We use this fund to cover expenses related to our free herbal clinic, fulfill free product requests from indigenous folks, and provide scholarships or discounted prices for students who may not be able to afford the full cost of a Greenspell course or program.
Free Product for Indigenous Folks
We acknowledge our products use herbs grown on the stolen land of the Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi), Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk), Myaamia (Miami), Peewaareewa (Peoria), oθaakiiwaki‧hina‧ki (Sauk), Meškwahki·aša·hina (Fox), Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Illiniwek (Illinois), Mamaceqtaw (Menominee), (Odaawaa) Odawa, and other indigenous nations and tribes, as well as other herbs obtained nationally on Turtle Island.
Our plant-based remedies are meant to offer healing with as few barriers as possible, particularly for those who have been overlooked due to oppressive systemic racism and marginalization.
As an herbalist working with and on lands sustained for millennia by these groups, I want to offer back medicine that I could never have created were it not for the stewardship, knowledge, and care of these Indigenous groups. Towards this end, I offer free product to Indigenous people.

All donations received will go toward our Community Fund which supports our ongoing Herbal Free Clinic, allows us to offer scholarships for Greenspell's multi-month courses, and allowing us to offer additional free product for indigenous folks.
While First Curve Apothecary is a for-profit business, the donations we receive are not regarded or allocated in any way as profit, and are instead invested in our Community Fund account which supports these initiatives.
